Indian Media goes Hysterical...

"Slum Dog-Millionaire"
The Oscars have been won as expected!! and it was a pleasure to give Hollywood a lesson or two about Indian philosophy. It was also great to see A.R Rahman, finally been awarded what he deserved for so long...(actually it was inevitable) !!!
The sad part is that all of them have been awarded the Oscars for a movie that was made clearly with one callow intention in mind-to draw up a caricature of every possible negative side prevailing in India, for the soul viewing pleasure of western India.

By no means am i trying to take away the credit from the achievers of the movie. It really is a nicely made movie, and all deserve all the accolades. But i am shocked at the shameful euphoria created by the half-educated Indian media that tagged the movie as "Indian Pride". Nothing could anything be further from the truth than this.
while a considerable no. of people say that it is just a creative and movie and should be left alone, but the fact is that it happens to be a movie made to show only the things that cud be wrong with India- much to the delight of west coz "porn and poverty" sells in west.

Yes , the movie has got the "Feel good film" of the year award but it is the most negative feel-good movie i have ever seen. I don't think the movie delves on any issue but shows poverty in most depoliticised manner. Every scene in the movie along with the characters seems to be dilettante effort to show India in an abrogating manner. Even the NGO's have vouched that they have never seen maiming of children for begging.

Despite showing poverty,i don't think there has been any effort of showing the pains of poverty. The movie has only served the purpose of giving west another opportunity to look down on India, especially when they themselves are reeling under recession an India is growing healthy!!!!
Globalisation backfired on the west and took away their jobs, so why wouldn't they enjoy watching India in such a state and heartily award it as well !!!!!!

India had an image of - "Land of elephants and snake charmers", and this image was changing very fast in the eyes of west by recent developments , to their very comfort..... Now the west says ,yes the image has indeed changed to "Slum Dog millionaires", who get this by god-damned luck rather than hard work. This is the power of of a well marketed movie and in this way it has been able to reconstruct the brand-image of India.
That is why it is not possible to leave this movie alone, just as a movie for the Indians. People have to realise its ramifications...

A person from the west who has watched this movie but has never been to India must be asking a question- " Do kids really swim in shit holes as shown in the movie??? "
**** "Land of Elephants and Snake charmers to Land of Slum Dog Millionaires"********

I think its time our media goes crazy for some meaningful and nation-enlightening movie and we delve in bringing back the pride of our nation and let our expectations for Oscars rely upon such pieces of art...!

Banks- changing approach..

During the flowery days, bankers favored a 3-6-3 format of working. This implies "borrow at 3%, lend at 6% and be at the golf course by 3 PM!" Those were however, good times when the stocks were rising, consumption was high fueled by the emerging economies by maintaining high surpluses and huge forex reserves and the economies growing at an astonishing rate.
But soon the flexibility of banks was forces into implementation. With rising inflation, interest rates rose. So the new format that emerged was 4-7-3! leading to 5-8-3, then 6-9-3, and so on and so forth.
This continued till the time was 9-12-3 (perfect combination of 3 multiples to send the global economies into a recession for a period of atleast 3 years).
Then came the default crisis!!! The economies began shrinking, liquidity of the financial institutions was questioned....Then the need to increase the money supply among public forced the government to pressurise the banks to reduce the interest rates.... Resulting in the reduced profits of the banks...

As of now the borrowing has been fixed at 9 to 10% and that is in the form of fixed deposits!!!

This phenomenon explains the apprehensions of banks in lending in current scenario. Lowering the interest rates to 8% will essentially mean only one thing for a banker, that is, 10-8-out. This means " Borrow at 10%, lend at 8% and then be fired by the bank heads for maintaining such scrupulous lending and borrowing procedures!"

*** lets hope that the economies start growing soon so that the banks regain confidence about lending and are able to contribute to the economy in a better way****

Till date in MDI..!

MDI...
It was a memorable day when i got through into MDI... The day when my dreams of becoming a manager looked like shaping into reality....
Just think of the thing that u want the most from ur life??? just close ur eyes and imagine as if u have achieved that.... did u have goosebumps????
The sensation and relief after achieving ur goal is priceless..!!
Isnt it???
*16 JUNE--
When the journey started....the dice was set rolling.!!
One could see large no. of fresh blooming faces raring to start their quest to be a manager, aiming to prove a point to everyone around... And ready to experiance the new turn in their life !!

--> Right from the "induction days" to the days of ending 3rd term(on the verge of our internships), its been a pleasant and a memorable ride...!
I remember the splashing water coming down from the CM roof on our heads and the "placecom" and "council" lashing down on us for the misconduct....
Both thou contrasting but are a part of the MDI culture that we all are proud of..!!!!

*One thing that has really taken me in is the serenic beauty of MDI... In a fast moving commercial city like gurgaon, if someone is looking for a place which has beauty, calmness, greenery, prestige and talent--- MDI is the destination.!!
** Standing at the library door , looking towards scholars---gives a feeling of purity and freshness..!!!!
** Just letting your eye balls roll from the illumina greens to the end of the golf range, reaching our very own jhaji... it looks a like god has layed a lush green carpet for the mandevians to enjoy and savor!!!

**Allow yourself to stand at parking end of CM and have a look at the stream of honor of MDI...
In a stream u ll see names like "Change Masters","Kshitij","Lakshya","Parthenon"....these all big expressions give an inspiration to do something big in life and to make your life count and make a contribution towards society...

everyone agrees that all these things are there to be savored and remembered in life...!!

In the due course I have come accross a number of fellow mandevians, have enjoyed their company and have shared lots of good moments with them......
BUT.....
In the last 9 months , i have been lucky enough to discover some precious diamonds out of the shining stones in MDI in the form of FRIENDS....

Friends with whom i can associate myself... i can be natural... Those, who came close to my heart!!!
Friends, who started affecting my life (giving it spark and enjoyment)

Persons whom i respect and admire for whatever they are....!! persons whos care for me and the ones for whom i will push myself to the limits....

** My friends who make me realize my mistakes and help me in improving them, I love them a lot and am proud to be in a group with them...

My Pals :- {Shabbu},{San San},{I},{Adi},{Jha},{Pj} !!!!!!!!
We all hold our different identities, but we all also hold each other as each others support to form a group,to endorse unity....

I hope our group goes ahead to see many new sunrises and sunsets together......

# Days come and go... Times pass away...Moments tickle away....
But these MDI days will be there with me forever....

**** Proud to be a MANDEVIAN*****

India-Liverpool on a role.....

14 march 2009
Time for the Blues and the Reds to have a say has arrived....
*** Indian cricket team on a rampage , ripping apart the Kiwis on their home soil..
Astonished, bamboozled??????
Yes , it is true... Indian batsmen have ripped apart the kiwi bowling attack in the one-dayers with sachin scoring 160+ in one match and then our very own "viru" scoring the fastest ever century by any Indian in the next match...
The only ray for kiwis in this time is that Indian batsmen get cramped up at end of innings and have to retire...(sachin got cramped after his innings)
Hahahaha !!!!!
I hope this form of the team continues in future....

**** Liverpool (the Reds) are playing like champions...
The challenge for the "Champions league" and the "Premiere league" is on for sure...
The reds have drubbed the so called two most powerful clubs in world soccer- "Real madrid" and " Manchester United"....
Real Madrid-- 5-0 (champions league)
Manchester united- 4-1(league). that too at Old Trafford...

the importance and significance of these wins is stated by just one rare expression on Benitez's face............ "A Smile " !!!!!
Hope to see this trend continue.....

" U will never walk alone.."

Changing managerial scenario...

Turmoil .... i think this is the write word to explain present economic situation in the world..
..isnt it??
"Lehman brothers crashing, AIG bailed out, fluctuating oil prices, Satyam business scandal..."
Are these all victims of unfavourable circumstances or an outcome of bad managerial decisions based on , may be greed or lack of ability...??
what do you think?
All this has has led to economic crisis in countries, leading to financial crunch in the corporate sector, hence going in for cost cutting..
Now days, a lot of questions are raised about the ability and the confidence to be shown in a manager...hence putting stringent pressures on existing managers and also the budding managers out of B-schools..

** The existing managers are now forced to change their mode of working in order to adapt to the current situation.
Managers of successful companies are at the forefront of job re-engineering.They are operating now with fewer employees and learning the importance of hiring the right talent to survive and thrive.
Economic uncertainty and changing job dynamics focus the spotlight directly on high efficiency and productivity. Lay- off of employees is becoming common, hence the select teams of key employees often work longer hours than ever before to accomplish the equivalent of what used to be multiple jobs. Increased expectations for results demand that managers reexamine and redefine jobs regularly.

Also the scene for the budding managers from B-schools has suffered. As the companies are in financial crunch, they are not very keen in hiring new people...
--- The TIME from B-schools choosing the companies for recruitment, and the students with multiple offers has changed to a TIME of companies choosing B-schools for hiring and students praying for companies to come for recruitment's...

May be it should not be said but the reality of the situation is that " Beggars cant be choosers"

It is often said that *being practical in life is the best policy*, but there are sometimes like present that one should hold "pragmatism" and "optimism" in equal states , coz one needs to believe that there is a bright future ahead and the times will change soon...

"Hard work always pays off , never say die till the old fat lady sings"

***Keep your spirits high in these tough times... after all nothing is permanent.. good times will return***
